Hyundai Sonata: Rear Suspension System / Rear Cross Member Repair procedures

Replacement
1.
Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
2.
Remove the wheel cap (A).

   
Be careful not to damage to the wheel cap (A) when removing the it.
3.
Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from front hub.

Tightening torque :
88.2 ~ 107.8 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.0 ~ 79.5 lb-ft)

   
Be careful not to damage to the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire (A).
4.
Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts and then place the brake caliper assembly (A) with wire.

Tightening torque :
78.4 ~ 98.0 N.m (8.0 ~ 10.0 kgf.m, 57.8 ~ 72.3 lb-ft)

5.
Loosen the mount screw and then brake disc (A).

Tightening torque :
4.9 ~ 5.8 N.m (0.5 ~ 0.6 kgf.m, 3.6 ~ 5.3 lb-ft)

6.
Loosen the rear upper arm mounting bolt and then remove the rear upper arm (A).

Tightening torque :
137.3 ~ 156.9 N.m (14.0 ~ 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 ~ 115.7 lb-ft)

7.
Disconnect the wheel speed sensor connector (A).

8.
Disconnect the parking cable mounting clip (A), remove the parking cable (B). If EPB type, release the EPB.

9.
Loosen the trailing arm mounting nut (A), and then remove the trailing arm (B).

Tightening torque :
98.1 ~ 117.7 N.m (10.0 ~ 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 ~ 86.8 lb-ft)

10.
Remove the assist arm protector.

11.
Remove the rear lower arm protector.

12.
Loosen the bolt and then remove the assist arm.

Tightening torque :
137.3 ~ 156.9 N.m (14.0 ~ 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 ~ 115.7 lb-ft)

   
Set up the transmission jack under the lower arm in order to remove the shock absorber in no-load condition .
Record the position of the alignment marks before removing the rear lower arm to keep from tightening the bolt and washer to the wrong position or the wrong direction.
13.
Loosen the lower arm (A) mounting bolts and remove the knuckle assembly (B).

Tightening torque :
137.3 ~ 156.9 N.m (14.0 ~ 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 ~ 115.7 lb-ft)

   
Set up the transmission jack under the lower arm in order to remove the shock absorber in no-load condition .
Record the position of the alignment marks before removing the rear lower arm to keep from tightening the bolt and washer to the wrong position or the wrong direction.
14.
Loosen the mounting bolt and nut. And then separate the shock absorber from the lower arm.

Tightening torque :
137.3 ~ 156.9 N.m (14.0 ~ 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 ~ 115.7 lb-ft)

   
Set up the transmission jack under the lower arm in order to remove the shock absorber in no-load condition.
Record the position of the alignment marks before removing the rear lower arm to keep from tightening the bolt and washer to the wrong position or the wrong direction.
15.
Remove the rear muffler.
(Refer to Engine Machanical System - "Muffler")
16.
Remove the rear stabilizer bar.
(Refer to Rear Suspension System - " Rear Stabilizer Bar")
17.
After setting a jack, loosen the bolts and then remove the rear sub frame

Tightening torque :
156.9 ~ 176.5 N.m (16.0 ~ 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 ~ 130.2 lb-ft)

18.
Remove the rear lower arm.
(Refer to Rear Suspension System - "Rear Lower Arm")
19.
Remove the rear shock absorber.
(Refer to Rear Suspension System - "Rear Shock Absorber")
20.
Remove the rear upper arm.
(Refer to Rear Suspension System - "Rear Upper Arm")
21.
Remove the rear assist arm.
(Refer to Rear Suspension System - "Rear Assist Arm")
22.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
23.
Check the wheel Alignment.
(Refer to Tires/Wheels - "Alignment")
